RPCS3 · PlayStation 3

Where RPCS3 keeps your saves.

RPCS3 keeps PS3 saves in its emulated hard drive, dev_hdd0, under home/00000001/savedata, one folder per save.

Open it from RPCS3

Manage, Save Data lists every save; select one and use the folder button to open it. To move the hard drive, use Manage, Virtual File System.

Moving saves between devices

  • Save folders start with the game's serial, such as BLUS for a US disc and BLES for a European one, so one region's save usually doesn't show in the other's game.
  • Saves belong to user 00000001. If you play as another user, copy them into that user's folder.
  • RPCS3's save states are experimental and break between builds.

Sync RPCS3 saves between devices

The SaveSync app for Windows, Mac, Linux, Steam Deck, and Android will watch RPCS3's save folders and sync them when you close a game. It is coming next.

Today SaveSync syncs RetroArch through its built-in Cloud Sync. See how to set it up.

SaveSync keeps the newest 20 versions of every save, so a bad sync or an overwritten slot is one click to undo.

Questions

Where are RPCS3 save files?
In dev_hdd0/home/00000001/savedata inside RPCS3's folder (next to rpcs3.exe on Windows, ~/.config/rpcs3 on Linux). Manage, Save Data lists them.
Can I use a save from a real PS3?
Yes, if it isn't copy-protected: copy the save folder (with its PARAM.SFO) into savedata. Some games lock saves to the console they were made on.

Checked against RPCS3's documentation and source in October 2026: vfs_config.cpp (rpcs3), File.cpp (rpcs3), EmuDeck's setup script, RetroDECK's setup.
